Kepala BBMKG Wilayah I Medan, Hartanto, yang dihubungi dari Medan, Selasa (27/4), mengatakan, penguatan monitoring gempa bumi di Sumatera Utara merupakan hal yang sangat penting dalam upaya mendeteksi gempa bumi yang terjadi di wilayah Sumatera Bagian Utara.
"Upaya ini dilakukan melihat frekuensi kegempaan di Sumatera Utara pada beberapa wilayah dan 3 bulan terakhir meningkat," katanya.
Staf analisa Pusat Gempa Bumi Regional (PGR) I, Endah Puspita Sari menyebutkan alat pemantau gempa bumi yang disuvervisi tersebut berada tepat di belakang Kantor Kecamatan Lumut, Tapanuli Tengah.
Sensor itu dipasang untuk memonitoring aktivitas kegempaan yang terjadi di sekitar Tapanuli Tengah yang bersumber dari segment Toru.
Sementara peneliti BBMKG Wilayah I Medan, Marzuki Sinambela, sensor LTSM merupakan bagian penting dalam merekam signal gempa bumi yang terjadi di darat dan sangat lokal.
Dari tiga bulan terakhir ini saja, telah terjadi 38 kejadian gempa bumi yang bersumber akbibat segment Toru.
Variasi kekuatan gempa bumi yang terjadi lebih kecil dari Magnitudi 4.2 dan terdapat kejadian gempa bumi yang dirasakan II MMI di Panyabungan, Mandailing Natal dengan lokasi epicenter di 1.01 LU- 99.50 BT, M=3.7 dan kedalaman h = 2 km.
"Supervisi alat pemantau gempa bumi pada sensor LTSM di Lumut memberikan hasil monitoring yang baik dalam memberikan respon cepat untuk memberikan informasi dini kepada stakeholder guna penyebarluasan informasi gempa bumi," katanya.
