Kepala Dinas Kesehatan Sumut Ismail Lubis di Medan, Kamis, mengatakan bahwa kelangkaan obat malaria juga dialami beberapa daerah di Indonesia, karena pengiriman obat difokuskan oleh pemerintah pusat ke wilayah endemis tinggi malaria.
"Kemenkes fokuskan pengiriman obat malaria wilayah endemis tinggi, seperti Papua, Papua Barat dan Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT)," katanya.
Ismail menyebut terdapat 21 kabupaten dan kota di wilayah Sumut sudah menerima sertifikat eliminasi malaria dari Kemenkes RI, yakni Medan, Binjai, Tebing Tinggi, Pematangsiantar, Padangsidimpuan, Tanjung Balai, dan Sibolga.
Selain itu, Deli Serdang, Serdang Bedagai, Karo, Dairi, Pakpak Bharat, Simalungun, Samosir, Toba, Humbang Hasundutan, Tapanuli Utara, Tapanuli Selatan, Padang Lawas, Padang Lawas Utara, dan Labuhan Batu Selatan.
Sedangkan untuk wilayah endemis rendah malaria, yaitu Labuhan Batu, Langkat, Tapanuli Tengah, Mandailing Natal, Nias, Nias Utara, Nias Barat, Nias Selatan, dan Gunung Sitoli.
"Daerah endemis sedang malaria, yaitu Asahan, Batubara dan Labuhan Batu Utara," ujarnya.
Dalam mengantisipasi kelangkaan obat malaria, Dinas Kesehatan Sumut melakukan pemberian KINA dengan dosis yang sudah ditentukan Kemenkes RI.
